Training and enablement sit right at the centre of successful change. They ensure that people do not just know about the change, but can actually work within it. It is one thing to announce a new system or process, and a completely different thing to have a team that feels confident using it day to day.
At its core, training is about building the skills people need to succeed. But good training goes beyond knowledge. It builds confidence. People need to feel comfortable enough to apply what they have learned without second guessing every step. If that confidence is missing, adoption slows down, mistakes increase, and frustration builds quickly.
One size does not fit all when it comes to training. Different people learn in different ways, and a single format rarely works across an entire organisation. A mix of approaches tends to work best. This can include hands-on sessions, short videos, written guides, and live walkthroughs. The goal is to make learning accessible and practical, not overwhelming.
Timing also plays a bigger role than most expect. Training delivered too early is often forgotten by the time people need it. Training delivered too late creates stress and confusion. The sweet spot is close enough to go-live that the information is still fresh, but early enough to give people time to practise and ask questions.
Another common gap is stopping support at go-live. That is usually when people need help the most. Once the system or process is live, real-life scenarios start to appear, and that is when uncertainty kicks in. Ongoing support, quick access to help, and clear guidance make a big difference during this phase. It helps turn early hesitation into confidence.
Measuring the effectiveness of training is just as important as delivering it. Completion rates alone do not tell the full story. What matters is whether people can actually perform their tasks in the new environment. Simple feedback loops, follow-up sessions, and observing how people work can give a much clearer picture.
When training and enablement are done well, adoption becomes faster and smoother. People feel prepared, capable, and supported. In simple terms, good training does not just help people learn. It helps them move forward with confidence.
